July 2019 Welcome to this years new junior doctors. E-learning is available on the prescription chartsafer basic prescribing and how to do VTE risk assessment in our Trust. Trustnet has general prescibing advice .


June 2019 : The local specialist respiratory group has recommended that all easy haler devices except Salbutamol are removed from use. The easyhaler devices cause problems in giving consent information on inhaler technique as they are the only dry powder devices which require shaking. The message used by respiratory staff is:

  • dry powder devices = don't shake + forceful inhalation
  • pMDI devices= don't shake +gentle inhalation
  • Easy halers therefore require a mixed message. Including salbutamol easy haler "on formualry"  is therfore not completely logical but there are limited dry powder salbutamol devices.

March 2019:  Please check Microguide for latest antibiotic recommendations and Medusa (link on every Trust desktop) for advice in English on formulations of iv drugs supplied by pharmacy.


December 18 Please only have one new inpatient prescription chart  active on a patient at any one time and use antimicrobial and anticoagulant sections correctly for all medications of these respective classes with review of prescription chart every ward round.
